How it works
The key difference between this subscription and others like it, is a higher level of collaboration with your entire team. Think of it like hiring a remote, in-house senior designer—without having to actually hire one.
Most organisations, even fast-moving startups, don’t need to have a senior designer around all the time. Like those fancy houseplants, we’re an awful lot of hassle. Except that having an experienced designer around to help answer the hard questions has often proven invaluable.
Standard design subscriptions deliver design requests, one at a time, and often the result is only as good as the design brief was; not too different from prompting an LLM. Instead, our offering is 40 hours of dedicated design time each month.
That time can be spent developing a new brand strategy and customer value proposition, before bringing it all together in a new visual identity. Or perhaps it might be more useful to help guide the development team through some tricky user journeys or implementing user & customer experience (UX & CX) improvements with some UI refinements.
Each team’s needs are different, and this subscription is more ideally suited to those looking for a design partner to become an unofficial part of their team.
What this subscription does share with the typical ones out there is a dedicated design board, with a special wishlist section for all the little design jobs that so often get lost in service to more time-critical tasks.
Getting started
Onboarding is really simple: a 1-hour video call to cover off all of the important things, like what we’ll be doing, who we’ll be doing it with, what we’re working towards, and how we’re going to get there.
A follow-up email will sort out the finer details around file access, permissions and introductions to the wider team. After that, we’ll start adding some design tasks to a new ClickUp design board (or whichever work management tool you already use) and get to work.
Design tasks are short-form briefs, and can include anything from brand strategy and logo design, to detailed UI components, design templates, motion graphics, and no-code websites using Webflow.
We’ll work together—either over email, chat, or during our weekly video call—to refine those design tasks until they’re more complete design briefs, ready to go.
40 hours of dedicated design time, every month
Each month, you’ll receive 40 hours of ‘dedicated design time’ that works out to 10 hours a week, including one hour each week for a video call. Dedicated design time refers to the hours spent using design tools, or time spent together with your team in meetings or workshops.
That time is spent on the most important, or urgent, tasks on the design board each week. Time can also be banked for more substantial task ahead of time—like an annual report, where content from the finance and legal teams won’t be ready until the last moment.
A log of time spent will always be available for review and, wherever possible, time estimates will be added to tasks in the design board to aid prioritisation.
Who it’s for
There are plenty of design subscriptions that promise an endless queue of design tasks, delivered within a tight turnaround time. They offer almost no meaningful engagement beyond asking for a design revision, which is considered a new design task.
This is not that.
This subscription is best suited to startups or SMEs who have a varied range of design needs—across brand, UX & UI, direct marketing, and social—and would like those services brought in-house; either for an extended period of time, or simply to help manage overflow work.
T has enough experience to work autonomously, but prefers to work within a team to deliver better considered design solutions.
